Where is Your Faith?

On that day, when evening had come, Jesus said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." And leaving the crowd, they took Him with them in the boat, just as He was.

And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat, being swamped by the waves, was filling with water and they were in danger. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. 

And they went and woke Him, saying, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" 

And He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Where is your faith?" 

Then He rose and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, saying, "Peace! Be still!" And there was a great calm.  And the men were filled with great fear, and they marveled, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even winds and water, and they obey Him?" 

What we really believe determines what we think, how we feel, and how we act.  What did the storm reveal about what the disciples really believed about Jesus?  His purpose on earth?  Their relationship to Him?

Questions to ask in the storms of life:
1) What does my flesh see as reality in this situation?
2) How can I engage this storm with the truth of Scripture?
3) Am I reacting in fleshly fear, anger, impatience, despair, etc.?  Or responding in faith that believes God and brings Him honor?

 Reality changes when we add God to the equation.

LORD, help us walk by faith and not by sight.

Help us to remember who You are,
who we are,
and the truth we cannot always see -
in every situation.
